coffee + crazy baby Hazey + good book + journal = good times
This past Sunday, 8/21 – i was given the honor of preaching at arcade church, where i typically lead worship. needless to say it was a different role for me to play – at the same time i was incredibly excited about it. i have been serving in church ministry for quite some time now and never actually given the responsibility to preach on a sunday morning. so this was a first for me. the week of preparation had some challenges, at the same time i really enjoyed diving into scripture, wrestling with it with friends and crafting what it was God wanted me to say. The sermon comes from Genesis 12:1-4 – a scripture section that has been instrumental in my story. here is the link for the sermon – Blessed to Be A Blessing. take a listen – would love some feedback enjoy
part 3 of Lem and my Sacred Space conversation is up! check it out below…. leave some comments and join in the conversation.

gave this talk a few nights ago – my first real shot at a sermon. ha. enjoy! listen/download here:
i tweeted a while back about this book i just finished reading The Story of God, The Story of Us and wanted to flesh out some thoughts from reading this book. first of all – it made me fall in love with the scriptures in a much deeper way that has been so great for my soul. the book is written so creatively and it captured my imagination right away. i love how the author captures the emphasis of God’s people living on mission, or not living on mission. here is a quote from ‘the old man’ in the chapter ‘community (part 2)’: wow. love this. this theme of participating with the mission of God and partnering with God is woven through out this book and has been extremely inspiring. as an aside, this is another reason why i love working with H.E.L.P. and why i think you should be working with them too. they are living out the story of God. these days i am continually amazed by the power of art and story and how they can communicate the extreme depths of God and His story. they can connect me to God in the deepest part of my soul. all in all after reading this book it has motivated me to evaluate my story and ask questions like “how am i participating in the story of God? in the mission of God? is the story i am telling with my life in line with the mission of God? or the mission of self?” so friends may we continue to tell stories of who God is and create art that connects our souls to the nature of who God is and the story he is telling.
make sure you you head over to the NEW ‘Sacred Space’ section on the site. ‘Sacred Space’ – it is a continual conversation that I have with my good friend Lem Usita. In this crazy and fast-paced, instant everything culture, we have come to appreciate the need for epiphany, catharsis, and renewal that Sacred Space can provide. It is a place of Sabbath. It is a place of rest. It is a place for creativity. It is a place of wonder and fascination. Join Lem and I as we continue our conversation about the ways in which we both find Sacred Space.
had another great chat with Lem today about worship and identity formation. some great stuff! check it out:
